Ikat Studies, 2013
After surfing the web this weekend I came across the work of Erin Morrison. She was born in Arkansas and got her masters at UCLA. Morrison's work varies from sculptural pieces, relief paintings and stencil drawings. I personally love the her ikat study from 2013. They are a series of etchings created under the guidance of master painter, Jacob Samuel. Morrison got her MFA at UCLA and BFA from Memphis College of Art.

Yesterday officially marked the beginning of summer. Make way for good weather and fun festivals. Everyone always seems to have shift in their mood this time of year. These four items will be making their way into my closet this season. Remember to stock up on SPF. Happy summer solstice.
Earlier in the week I was introduced to chef Josef Centeno on a photo shoot whom invited us to one of his restaurants, Bäco Mercat. I was intrigued by Centeno and his humble attitude for owning three successful restaurants in downtown Los Angeles. Andy and I decided to take the metro from Hollywood to downtown for lunch. We arrived and were surprised to see how packed the restaurant was on Saturday. After talking with Centeno and reading about his restaurants I knew what to expect, but for Andy whom is not an adventurous eater was in for a surprise. Bäco is the signature flatbread sandwich created by Centeno that gets better with every bite. I decided to go with the "el pollo' and Andy went with "the toron" with oxtail hash, cheddar tater and horseradish-yogurt. The chef knew we were coming in so he started sending out dishes he thought we would love. Crispy sunchokes, “caesar” brussels sprouts, mimosa with orange-vanilla shrub and the most amazing caramel upside down cake I've ever tasted. The food was bursting with flavor and extremely fresh. Andy is not one for brussels sprouts and he was practically licking the bowl clean. I cannot say enough good things about the chef and his creations. Bar Ama and Orsa & Winston are Centeno's other restaurants which are located just around the corner from Bäco Mercat. Be sure to check all three out.

To all the fathers out there happy father's day! It's an honor and big undertaking. I never met my grandfather {above}, but know I would have really loved him. He raised a wonderful son. Thank you dad for teaching me many lessons in life and always believing in me. I would not be the woman I am without you. I love you both!
Kelly Ventura is a freelance surface designer living in Michigan. Her work plays beautifully with different colors, shapes and textures. I've come to appreciate good hand drawn patterns when they are versatile in what can be done with them. Ventura's work could be used on stationary, fabrics for the home, clothing, etc. My mind is running with ideas and thought of creating my own patterns. I mean for someone that loves patterns why not give it a go. If anyone has suggestions on the best process to create patterns I'd love to hear. It's crazy to think that in all four years of attending art school I never took a surface design class. Thank you to Design Sponge for the introduction. TGIF!
